Blogging On Assignment #3: A Day in My Life

Typical Day in My Life

A typical day in my life right now starts with me dragging myself out of bed around 8:30 AM. I’m definitely not a morning person, so there’s always that internal debate of “Do I really need to get up yet?” Eventually, guilt wins, and I reach for my phone. The first step of my morning is making coffee because I honestly can’t function without it. If I have a few extra minutes, I try to put together a balanced breakfast so I don’t end up starving mid-class.

Since all my classes are in Marshall this semester, I usually spend most of my day there. Sometimes I grab coffee on the patio with my friends before class, and other days I’m rushing straight in. I usually have 2–3 classes a day, except Tuesdays when I only have one. I really like studying in the Marshall library because I’m usually with my friends, and the environment is so much nicer than Leavey. I try to finish most of my homework during the day so I don’t end up dealing with it stressed and half-asleep at home. Some days get crazy where I’ll have class from 12 to 6, then stay an extra two hours to study, and by the time I leave, I feel like I’ve spent my entire life on campus.

I try to push myself to work out in the afternoons. Sometimes I’ll go to my apartment gym, and other days I take a Pilates class downtown. But honestly, this semester has been so busy that I haven’t been able to work out as much as I would’ve liked. It’s something I’m trying to get better about.

Evenings are usually my favorite. I almost always end up having dinner with my roommates, and it’s the part of the day where I really get to unwind. We hang out in the living room, talk about our days, and laugh about random things, and it still hits me sometimes how grateful I am to live with three of my best friends. It makes the long days so much easier.

By the time I get ready for bed, it’s usually close to 1 AM. I always tell myself I’ll sleep earlier, but realistically, this is just my rhythm right now. I really want to try to sleep earlier so I can wake up earlier and be more productive.

  1. Hi Ella! Great post. I really enjoyed reading about your daily routine. I feel like we have a lot in common, especially when it comes to the struggle of getting out of bed in the morning and needing that coffee to really start the day. Overall, it sounds like you have a really full and busy schedule, but it also seems like you’re finding ways to make it enjoyable and meaningful. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi Ela, I really enjoyed your post about your day in your life. I also have been quite busy and not able to work out as much as I would like to. I love coffee as well and definitely have a caffeine addiction of some sorts. It sounds like your day is a bit busier than mine, but sometimes busier is better!

  3. Hi Ela,
I really enjoyed reading about your relatable routine, especially the part about basically living in Marshall because I'm also pretty much at school all day. Your descriptions makes your day feel very balanced and shows how those small moments really help keep you balanced.
